10 mile stretch of Driftwood Beach and take it in for yourself.
As you stand and look down the beach you see a solemn graveyard of old Southern live oak trees that gave up the “ghost” long ago to wind, surf and erosion.
It’s an interesting maze to navigate as you make you way down the beach…
Tiffany, lives in Jacksonville FL
I spent the weekend at my dad's house and we, along with my sister Sabrina (the one who just graduated), took a bike ride along Driftwood Beach (Jekyll Island, GA). It's a breathtaking view, all the washed up trees embedded in the sand and emerged in the sea. You can see the intricate root systems of these giant (pine?) trees and standing among them at high tide is surreal. Trees aren't supposed to be on the beach, in the water, but they are and who knows how long they've been there, or how much longer they'll remain? There isn't much history to be found about Driftwood Beach, which allows the imagination to run wild.
Driftwood Beach
We also love to travel-especially in the South, cook, decorate, and serve our community.
Driftwood Beach is one of my all time favorite places to visit.
It's more of a place of wonder, than anything, I think.
Perhaps that's why every time I visit I just want to photograph every detail of the beauty of nature.
Located on the remote northern end of Georgia's Jekyll Island, Driftwood Beach is a gem.
Rhonda of Shellebelle? Lavender Hill??
And here is the explanation to it all: Via Driftwood Beach Jekyll Island Georgia at Seasonally Southern
The waves that have hit the beach over the years have sent sand down to the far tip of the island but unlike most most beaches there was a line of trees separating the ocean from the inland marsh.
The trees that once stretched out over the beach to provide shade now lie at rest on the beach filling a new role as home to sea creatures and a perch for the birds. Driftwood beach is a wonderful example of nature leaving behind a reminder of the past for us to see how all things work together to continue to create something beautiful. If you happen to be near the Golden Isles, be sure to visit the 10 mile stretch of Driftwood Beach and take it in for yourself. In my opinion, there isn't a better time to visit than sunrise.

Skylands, my home in Seal Harbor, Maine. Skylands is an amazing estate and we are planning on shooting another magazine story there.went on long hikes. around Jordan Pond in Acadia National Park.
Martha on Cranberry Island
They asked me and my guests to join them for a boat ride to Little Cranberry Island. The town of Cranberry Isles consists of five islands and only two of them are inhabited year round - Great Cranberry and Little Cranberry. They're called "Cranberry" because of the low-bush cranberries that grow right on the dry ground.

Gorgeous Garbage -The Glass Beach in Fort Bragg, California
Read this:
Just got back a few days ago from Glass Beach in Ft. Bragg. There is even less to choose from than one year ago - unless you happen to like brown/green/clear; that's it. There were no rangers; just a few vacationers picking about - and a lot of disgusting trash. My husband and 1 of our 3 children just happened upon a beach much further south from there, met a very friendly sweet family headed by a kind young man named Charles - the man who had helped with the Travel Channel show we had never seen, and that is where we go now. Ft. Bragg alas is nothing now compared to what we have found further south of the once opulent Glass Beach. But if you do go: Please take your trash with you. Tks.
Glass Beach is a beach in MacKerricher State Park near Fort Bragg, California that is abundant in sea glass created from years of dumping garbage into an area of coastline near the northern part of the town.
In the early 20th century, Fort Bragg residents threw their household garbage over the cliffs above what is now Glass Beach. They discarded glass, appliances, and even cars. The land was owned at that time by the Union Lumber Company, and locals referred to it as "The Dumps." Sometimes fires were lit to reduce the size of the trash pile.
In 1967, the North Coast Water Quality Board and city leaders closed the area. Various cleanup programs were undertaken through the years to correct the damage. Over the next several decades the pounding waves cleansed the beach, wearing down the discarded glass into the small, smooth, colored trinkets that cover the beach today.
In 2002, the California State Park system purchased the 38-acre (150,000 m2) Glass Beach property, and after cleanup it was incorporated into MacKerricher State Park. (Wikipedia)

During the early years of the 20th century, the city of Fort Bragg in northern California began to dispose of its waste by tipping it over a cliff. The waste fell onto a strip of shoreline below, where it was washed away or corroded by the action of the sea. Known locally as “The Dumps,” the site was utilised for all manner of garbage until it was closed in the late 1960s.
In the 40 years since, Mother Nature has reclaimed the shoreline. The action of the waves has corroded or claimed most of the metal and other debris, replacing it with a patchwork covering of sea-glass stones which glitter in the sunshine. There are sea glass pieces of all shapes and sizes, and in almost all the colours of the rainbow.
In 2003, the beach was incorporated into the MacKerricher State Park and it is now illegal to remove the sea glass. That should help ensure that Glass Beach remains beautiful for many years. But it made us wonder how many years before the waves grind the sea glass into glass sand?
A few weeks ago we featured a story on Boston Sea Glass. This collection must make Alison’s mouth water!
another text via Sea Glass Sisters who has been there and collected lots of sea glass:
On May 27, 2011, we drove up to Fort Bragg, California for our second sea glass festival at Captain Cass's Sea Glass Museum - http://glassbeachjewelry.com/ It is a long drive from Palm Springs as Fort Bragg is several hours past San Francisco. We finally got to our motel and unloaded, then hit the beach. The coastline in Fort Bragg is strewn with cliffs and rocks. There is one sandy beach near where we go, but the best glass beaches are the ones you climb down the rocks to the beach below. One of the very best glass beaches is accessible by climbing, but it is off limits and posted with no trespassing signs. I really wanted to go there, but with my luck I would have been ticketed so we kept to the other sites. We picked up glass for about an hour then headed back to the motel.

To the Virginia Tangier Island by Plane
Have you heard of Tangier Island? It's a new discovery for me! Tangier is a tiny, peaceful little spot in the middle of the Chesapeake Bay in Virginia. Aimee of My Pink Life says.
She and her husband went there by plane! So convenient to have friends with wings! A little skinny dipping was part of the fun too, and amazing crab bisque, crab cakes and shrimp po boys -shrimp what? Anyhow, I'm happy to know about Tangier. To see more, click here

My Day Trip to Block Island Rhode Island
If you live in Rhode Island like me, then Block Island is a great day trip for a coastal country adventure. We left the car behind, boarded the speed ferry in Narragansett and set foot on Block Island half an hour later.
We walked the streets, peeked into stores...
... and enjoyed the quaint country side. I took this picture while walking up to the Oar restaurant.
The oar restaurant, of course, has oars -and they're everywhere! It's a one-of-a-kind place.
And you don't want to miss the view from the Spring House Hotel. It's a short walk up Spring road from the ferry. Have lunch on the porch, a drink at the bar, or just hang out on the lawn, that's what we did. And if walking is not your thing, rent a bike, a Vespa, or bring the car. For more pictures, check out my post on Completely Coastal: Block Island Inspiration.

Canyon Ranch Living in Miami Beach -My Solo Summer Getaway!
I stayed at Canyon Ranch in Miami Beach for two months this summer and it was a dream getaway. My one bedroom apartment (found via VRBO) was on the 8th floor and gave me a sweeping view up the coast.
At dusk, my favorite time of day, I would just sit and watch!
The beach at Canyon Ranch Resort. I took this picture around 10am.
One of the two pools on the grounds...
... and the view from the adult only pool on the rooftop of the Canyon Ranch Resort Fitness Center and Spa. You can see, there is a beautiful park like setting between Towers. And do you see the low white roof on the left? That's the restaurant which includes outdoor seating and lounging.
What did I enjoy most at Canyon Ranch Resort? Besides being right on the beach, having warm weather and a steady beautiful ocean breeze, I loved doing laps in the pool(s) and going to fitness classes. You can really shape up there! Daily yoga classes, Pilates, abs and legs workouts, boxing, Zumba, cardio in the pool and more. Another thing I thoroughly enjoyed -the grocery store was right across the street!

Bass Harbor -off the beaten path in Maine
"Bass Harbor Maine is a lovely, working harbor town off of the beaten path," Terri Morse says. She and her hubby went camping there and it sounds like it wasn't for the first time.
"This is probably the most photographed scene in Bass Harbour. I had to stand in the middle of the road on a blind curve to get the shot." I think it was worth it!
A lighthouse-esque home, decorated with buoys. Lobster fishing is the main industry there! If this humors you, then check out Bring on the Buoys, a post I published on Completely Coastal.
I'm loving the crab.
And you definitely want to enjoy delicious seafood while in Maine. For the full Bass Harbor tour click here.
Thank you Terri for sharing your trip -your photography is gorgeous!
