The Wonders of Driftwood Beach on Jekyll Island, Georgia

10 mile stretch of Driftwood Beach and take it in for yourself.

As you stand and look down the beach you see a solemn graveyard of old Southern live oak trees that gave up the “ghost” long ago to wind, surf and erosion.
It’s an interesting maze to navigate as you make you way down the beach…

I spent the weekend at my dad's house and we, along with my sister Sabrina (the one who just graduated), took a bike ride along Driftwood Beach (Jekyll Island, GA). It's a breathtaking view, all the washed up trees embedded in the sand and emerged in the sea. You can see the intricate root systems of these giant (pine?) trees and standing among them at high tide is surreal. Trees aren't supposed to be on the beach, in the water, but they are and who knows how long they've been there, or how much longer they'll remain? There isn't much history to be found about Driftwood Beach, which allows the imagination to run wild.

We also love to travel-especially in the South, cook, decorate, and serve our community.
Driftwood Beach is one of my all time favorite places to visit.
It's more of a place of wonder, than anything, I think.
Perhaps that's why every time I visit I just want to photograph every detail of the beauty of nature.
Located on the remote northern end of Georgia's Jekyll Island, Driftwood Beach is a gem.

The waves that have hit the beach over the years have sent sand down to the far tip of the island but unlike most most beaches there was a line of trees separating the ocean from the inland marsh.
The trees that once stretched out over the beach to provide shade now lie at rest on the beach filling a new role as home to sea creatures and a perch for the birds. Driftwood beach is a wonderful example of nature leaving behind a reminder of the past for us to see how all things work together to continue to create something beautiful. If you happen to be near the Golden Isles, be sure to visit the 10 mile stretch of Driftwood Beach and take it in for yourself. In my opinion, there isn't a better time to visit than sunrise.
